UPDATES/ANNOUNCEMENTS (20Aug2020)
🌟 Tip of the Week
With your students in front of you, practice using the digital tools and platforms (like Schoology) with them! By doing so, they will understand how to use and navigate these digital tools on their own during remote learning sessions.
SYNCING GRADES FROM SCHOOLOGY TO POWERSCHOOL
If you want to set up grade syncing from Schoology to PowerSchool, you must follow the instructions on the following guides. Please reach out to the EdTech team if you need further support in setting this up.
Step 1: Schoology Gradebook Setup Guide
Step 2: Grade Sync from Schoology to PowerSchool Setup Guide
*You must follow BOTH guides above to sync your grades!
SCHOOLOGY SANDBOX COURSES
Over the summer we set up an “ECS Sandbox” umbrella course within Schoology and created a separate section for each teacher who requested this or participated in a training. The name of the umbrella course is “ECS Sandbox,” and the name of your specific section is your last name. Please do NOT change the name of the ECS Sandbox course as it will change the name of the entire umbrella course for everyone. Also, please know that these Sandbox courses are for you to play and test the options within Schoology. These should NOT be used as a teaching course with students.
☠️ GOOGLE CAST FOR EDUCATION IS GONE ☠️
Google will discontinue the Google Cast for Education Chrome extension as of August 2020. This extension will be automatically uninstalled. For now, we recommend teachers use the 10’ HDMI cable that is connected to the Portable Wireless Display to display their screen or the screens of their students.

PREVIOUS UPDATES/ANNOUNCEMENTS
NEW TECHNOLOGY WEBSITE:
We have redesigned our Technology Website (https://technology.eagleschools.net) in order to better provide targeted information for teachers, students, and parents. On the site you will see a new Digital Learning section that contains information previously found on the ECS Learns pages. Be sure to check out the new site for instructional guides, video tutorials, & student/teacher access information.
SCHOOLOGY TEMPLATES:
ECS will standardize on using Schoology as our district Learning Management System in grades K-12 starting in the 2020-2021 academic year. To provide a more consistent and uniform learning platform, ECS is now requiring all teachers to use Schoology to deliver all assignments and course materials.
In order to assist with this transition, the ECS EdTech team has created this Schoology Template Use Instructions handout. Please read the linked instructions to learn how to copy the template to your own course(s). Please reach out to the EdTech team if you need assistance.

GOOGLE HANGOUTS & GOOGLE MEET FOR STUDENTS:
In order to create a safe learning environment for students, ECS has changed the permission settings for students in both Google Meet and Google Hangouts. As of June 2020, K-8 students will now only be able to join Google Meet meetings; they cannot create their own meetings. Also, students will no longer have access to Google Hangouts; however, should we transition to remote learning, this will be reconsidered. We made these changes for the safety of students, but there are some additional steps you (the teacher) must follow in order to ensure that your “virtual classroom” is only accessible while you are in it. To learn how to set up a more secure Google Meet, please read these instructions: NEW Google Meet Virtual Classroom Setup Instructions.
Student Access to Google Hangouts & Google Meet:
K-8 Students only can join Meets, can’t create them
9-12 students can create and join Meets
Students can not use Hangouts
250 person limit with recording option
Anonymous users join - exempted for now
New method to create a Google Meet that prevents students from being in the Meet without a teacher.
PhET Java Simulations Now Available on Chromebooks
Click HERE to read more about it.
INTERNET HOTSPOTS:
The ECS Technology department does have internet hotspots available for students that need assistance with internet access for remote and blended learning. Please request a hot spot on behalf of a student by completing this form, and submit a help ticket. We understand this is a two step process but it helps get the hotspot into the student’s hands much more quickly.
