ALDO: Amazing Lesson Design Outline

TCEA (Texas Computer Education Association) Director of PD Miguel Guhlin recently posted a fantastic tool that supports teachers with lesson planning on their TechNotes Blog.  In ECSD, we encourage UBD (Understanding by Design) to backwards plan your units.  For the third stage of UBD, Planning Learning Experiences and Instruction, ALDO would be a key tool to utilize.  The overall design uses a five step lesson planning process:

Step 1: Relationships: Trust and Social-Emotional Learning

Step 2: Pre-Assessment

Step 3: Teaching and Learning

Step 4: Assessment

Step 5: Reflect and Share

For each step of the process, ALDO provides resources, high effect size strategies (as recommended by John Hattie’s research), and edtech tools to support the strategies, with examples and templates galore!  Here is a link to ALDO, from which you can make your own cope, but we also encourage you to read Miguel’s original blog post about ALDO on TCEA’s website
