EdTech Update - Wednesday 9/9/20

 UPDATES/ANNOUNCEMENTS (Sept 9, 2020)

SYNCING ISSUES FOR SCHOOLOGY ASSIGNMENTS WITH NO DUE DATE

If you have graded materials in your Schoology gradebook that do NOT have a due date, the syncing process will automatically assign the last date of the grading period, which is why you may see the assignment in your PowerSchool Semester 2 grading period.  To fix this, delete the assignment from PowerSchool, add a due date in Schoology, and re-sync.  To prevent this from occurring in the future, ensure that all graded materials have due dates.

POSTING AN EDPUZZLE LESSON IN SCHOOLOGY: FOLLOW THESE STEPS OR YOU MAY RUN INTO PROBLEMS!

When creating Edpuzzle lessons, we HIGHLY recommend that you create your classes and lessons directly in Edpuzzle.  When you are ready to post an assignment for your class(es) to view, assign it to the class in Edpuzzle, then click the button to share the assignment and you’ll be able to copy a link directly to that assignment and post it in Schoology.  Please watch the Edpuzzle - Share a Lesson on Schoology Video on the Technology website to see this process.

*The Edpuzzle integration within Schoology is glitchy, so we encourage teachers to follow the steps above instead!

STUDENTS CAN’T ACCESS EDPUZZLE?  HERE’S THE FIX!

If you followed the steps above to post your Edpuzzle assignment and your students get this error...

… it is because they have not yet joined your Edpuzzle class.  Instruct your students to log out of Edpuzzle and click on the link to the assignment again.  They should then choose Log in with Google and then Join Class.  Once they have joined your class, they should have direct access to all your assignments moving forward.

UNPUBLISHED MATERIALS IN SCHOOLOGY AND POWERSCHOOL GRADEBOOK

If you unpublish a graded material in Schoology, it will no longer appear in the Schoology gradebook, and will, therefore, not sync to PowerSchool.  We recommend that teachers keep all previous graded work published and only use the unpublish feature on upcoming and/or ungraded materials.

SYNCING GRADES FROM SCHOOLOGY TO POWERSCHOOL

If you want to set up grade syncing from Schoology to PowerSchool, you must follow the instructions on the following guides.  Please reach out to the EdTech team if you need further support in setting this up.

Step 1: Schoology Gradebook Setup Guide

Step 2: Grade Sync from Schoology to PowerSchool Setup Guide

*You must follow BOTH guides above to sync your grades!

NEW TECHNOLOGY WEBSITE:

We have redesigned our Technology Website (https://technology.eagleschools.net) in order to better provide targeted information for teachers, students, and parents.  On the site you will see a new Digital Learning section that contains information previously found on the ECS Learns pages.  Be sure to check out the new site for instructional guides, video tutorials, & student/teacher access information.

INTERNET HOTSPOTS:

The ECS Technology department does have internet hotspots available for students that need assistance with internet access for remote and blended learning.  Staff must request a hot spot on behalf of a student by completing this form, and submit a help ticket.  We understand this is a two step process but it helps get the hotspot into the student’s hands much more quickly.
